Just a Little Longer

Posted on Updated on

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When sleep, drink and pee was all that they did;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When an attempt to sit-up was their main aim;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When crawling was a great workout;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When walking was the biggest achievement;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When brawling on the ground for a tiny toy was the blackmailing weapon;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When closing their eyes meant hiding, while playing hide and seek;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When they felt all fine with a peck on the wound;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When they thought, the best bed was your lap;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When we were the only person they ever wanted to be around;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When all they wanted to hold was your hand;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When they believed in Santa Claus;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When they waited for a visit from the tooth fairy;

We wish the innocence stayed a little longer,When outing meant going to the park;

While now wanting for that innocence to stay a little longer,We also realize, all that we ever wanted during all those days was for them to grow up, without realizing how much we would crave those moments stayed just a little longer….
